The Australian Government has confirmed the 2025–26 state and territory skilled visa nomination allocations, setting a total of 20,350 places across Australia. These allocations determine how many new primary applicants each jurisdiction may nominate under the Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190) and the Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491).
Purpose of Nomination Programs
State and territory nomination programs are designed to help jurisdictions meet local workforce and demographic needs, and address critical skills shortages. Each state or territory assesses applicants against its own eligibility criteria, reflecting regional priorities and skill demand.

How Allocations Are Set
On 4 November 2025, the Australian Government set the allocation numbers for the 2025–26 program year.
They consider:
- each jurisdiction’s workforce and demographic needs
- the number of on-hand visa applications
- overall Migration Program planning levels
Note: Nomination allocations represent the number of applicants a state or territory may nominate—not the number of visa grants.
