Studying in Australia is a life-changing experience—and it’s even more meaningful when your partner can join you. If you hold a Student Visa (Subclass 500), you may be eligible to add your spouse or de facto partner as a secondary applicant, allowing them to live, work, and study alongside you.
At Questra, we help make this process smooth and stress-free, so you can focus on both your education and your relationship.
What Does It Mean to Add a Partner?
This isn’t a separate visa. Instead, your partner is added as a dependent to your existing Student Visa (Subclass 500). If granted, their visa will align with yours—same expiry date, full work rights (with some conditions), and permission to stay with you throughout your studies.
Important: You typically must have declared your partner in your original student visa application—even if they weren’t planning to come initially. If not, you may face additional hurdles.
Who Can You Add as a Partner?
| Relationship Type | Criteria |
|---|---|
| Spouse | You’re legally married. |
| De Facto Partner | You’ve lived together in a committed relationship for at least 12 months. (A registered relationship can waive this requirement in some states.) |
