VETASSESS Trade

Applicants who obtained their trade skills outside Australia should apply through this pathway. You’ll need to complete:

1. Documentary Evidence Review

You’ll need to provide proof of work experience specific to your trade.

Licensed Trades:

• 6 years’ experience (no formal training)
• 4 years’ experience (with formal training)

Non-Licensed Trades:

• 5 years’ experience (no formal training)
• 3 years’ experience (with formal training)

To be eligible, you need employment records showing at least 12 months of work during the past 3 years.

2. Practical Assessment and/or Technical Interview

You’ll perform specific tasks or answer questions to demonstrate your abilities meet Australian standards.

The pathway for applicants who possess Australian trade qualifications and occupational licenses includes:

1. Documentary Evidence Review

The assessment requires you to provide:

• A relevant Australian qualification or licence
• Three years of full-time paid work experience within your trade at the required skill level
• At least 12 months of that experience must have occurred within the past 3 years
• If you hold a current Australian licence, you must have worked in Australia for the required 12 months

2. Technical Interview

An assessor will conduct a 1-hour interview to verify your technical knowledge and skills.
